Presidents of the Piedmont and Aosta Valley Aeroclubs meet with Senator Giuseppe Leoni

On Saturday 10th March a meeting took place at the AeroClub Torino between Senator Giuseppe Leoni, the AeroClub of Italy Commissioner, and the Presidents of the Piedmontese and Aosta Valley Aeroclubs.

With the absence of only those from the Novara and Mondovì Aeroclubs, the Presidents were briefed by Senator Leoni about his recent meetings, first with Prime Minister Mario Monti, his fellow-citizen from Varese, then, at the beginning of the same week with the Minister for Economic Development, Infrastructure and Transport, Dr. Passera and his Director General, in which he presented the AeroClub of Italy proposals for modification to the recent government decree concerning the recently introduced ownership tax on private aircraft.

We are pleased to be able to report that Leoni's activities have been successful, and that on the 19th of April, the decree passed into the Statute Book as DL No. 16. of 2nd March 2012, comprising (amongst other things) the revision of the aircraft taxation scheme.

Wings of Support Day 2012 postponed to the 6th of May.

altThe Aero Club's traditional Open Day, known as "Giochi D'Ali Solidali", has been postponed to the 6th of May 2012, because of the bad weather conditions.

The event, which aims to encourage the general public and particularly the young to come and experience the world of aviation, is forecast to have a static display of more than 50 aircraft, with flights performed by historic aircraft and aerobatic displays by both powered aircraft and gliders.

Participating in the event will be aircraft from the Police, Carabinieri, Helicopter Rescue (118), Fire Brigade, Civil Defence and, it is hoped, a C27J Spartacus by courtesy of Alenia.

The final programme and any further information will be published as they become available.

Three interesting books (the first two with text in Italian only) concerning aspects close to our hearts are well worth mentioning:

"Gino Lisa."  Our good friend and Club member, Don Paolo Garliglio, has recently published the results of his research into the life and times of the 1st World War pilot Gino Lisa (awarded the Gold Medal for Valour), to whom our airfield was dedicated between 1921 and 1944. The book "Gino Lisa - l'Aquilotto della Prima Covata", published by Logisma of Florence, has a foreword by Maria Fede Caproni and is available to Club members from the secretary at the reduced price of...
"Mille Aeri in Mille Giorni." Published by Lazzanetti of Trana, this book by Carlo Pognante and Mario Oliviero recounts the short but intense story of the "AER" Factory of Orbassano. Rich in previously-unpublished photos, the historical research has been effected with great skill and attention to detail by the authors. This is an indispensable document detailing the activities of the factory which produced the famous Caudron G3 and G4 aircraft, one of which, among other things, was employed by Guigliemo Marconi for his initial experiments in airborne radio transmission at Mirafiori in 1915.

"History of the Aeroclub Torino" We would like to remind you that copies of this dual language book (Italian and English) will remain available until stocks are exhausted. It covers more than 100 years of Torinese aviation history, from the first flight in the city by Delagrange in 1908 up until the World Air Games of 2009. Essential reading for those interested in the aeronautical history of Turin.
